Enhancement of natural heritage and biodiversity in historic olive groves through acoustic and satellite monitoring.
Maiano Farm has always been attentive to sustainability and promotes organic farming. However, accurately measuring biodiversity and assessing the impact of conservation efforts in a broad agricultural context requires a data-driven approach. For this reason, since 2023, Maiano Farm has been engaged in a biodiversity monitoring and protection project within its historic Tuscan estate located in the Fiesole hills, near Florence.
Valuing the historical and natural heritage by monitoring the biodiversity of olive groves and forests.

The first phase of the initiative involved a satellite-supported biodiversity assessment, using Flora, a system developed in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA). By analyzing multispectral images through artificial intelligence-based models, the assessment provided a large-scale overview of the biodiversity potential of different areas of the estate. This approach allowed for the identification of optimal sites for field monitoring of biodiversity, as well as continuous monitoring of vegetation dynamics to detect any changes in ecosystems over time.
XNatura’s assessment suite uses recognized protocols to rank your sites’ nature, biodiversity, and climate priority.
