New video tutorials and a report template gallery
The new How-To section makes its debut with short video tutorials to help you learn the platform, while the Report Builder now welcomes you with a template gallery and a guided choice. On top of that come the sensor GPS track on the Census map, more readable sensor popups, a guided sign-up for new users, search inside the site overview lists, and more reliable site pages.
New Features
7 updatesNew How-To section with video tutorials
pagina-how-to-videoWe have introduced a new How-To section designed for anyone who wants to learn how to use the XNatura Platform quickly and easily. Inside you will find plenty of short video tutorials that show, step by step, how to make the most of the platform's main features, with special attention to the maps and the environmental analysis tools. Each tutorial lasts only a few moments and focuses on a single topic, so you can find the answer you are looking for right away without wasting time. In this first version there are already guides dedicated to several thematic maps, such as the vegetation health index, the urban heat island, protected areas, land cover and land use, and the nature integrity index. The videos are available in Italian and English and play smoothly right in your browser. To watch them, go to XNatura → How-To and pick the tutorial you are interested in from the list. It is the ideal starting point if you have just begun using the platform or if you want to discover features you did not know about yet. We will keep enriching this section with new tutorials over time, so you always have a handy little guide for every tool.
Template gallery and guided report choice
galleria-template-reportWe have made it simpler and more pleasant to start creating an environmental report for your site. Now, when you open the Report Builder, a full-screen view welcomes you and invites you to choose where to begin, so you never face an empty page. From here you can browse a real gallery of ready-made templates, each designed for a different type of reporting or communication, and see a preview before choosing one. The first template is preloaded automatically, so the preview is instant and you can assess the result straight away. We have also added an always-visible template selection bar that lets you switch from one model to another with a single click while you work, without losing your train of thought. We have tidied up the layout of the template cards too, which now fill the whole width of the row in an orderly way, with no annoying horizontal scrollbars. To try the new experience, go to XNatura → Monitoring → Site → Report and pick a template from the opening gallery. It is the fastest way to turn your site's data into a professional document, starting from a ready-made base.
Sensor GPS movement track on the map
traccia-gps-sensori-censusWe have added to the Census map the ability to display the movement track recorded by sensors equipped with GPS. In practice, for devices that move around the area, you can now see the path they followed drawn on the map, instead of just the point of their latest position. This helps you understand how a sensor moved over time and to connect the data collected with the places it actually passed through. It is particularly useful for monitoring activities in which the instrument does not stay still but is carried to different points across the area. The track integrates with the other map layers, so you can view it together with the surveys and the other sensors of the site. To see it, go to XNatura → Monitoring → Census → Map and select a sensor that has movement data. The path is shown clearly and follows the chronological order of the movements. It is one more tool to read what happens in the field with greater precision.
Guided sign-up and creation of your first site
onboarding-guidato-primo-sitoWe have introduced a guided sign-up flow that accompanies new users from their very first access all the way to creating their first site to monitor. Instead of facing complex forms, anyone arriving for the first time is guided step by step through a few simple stages. The flow lets you create your account and immediately set up an area to keep under observation, so you can start using the platform right away. Everything happens smoothly, with no unnecessary page reloads, for a fast and seamless experience. This addition lowers the barrier to entry and makes the first contact with the XNatura Platform far more immediate, especially for those who are not familiar with tools of this kind. To try it, simply start the sign-up from XNatura → Sign up and follow the steps shown on screen. Once you complete the flow you will already have a site set up and ready for your first analyses. It is the easiest way to take your first steps and explore the platform's features.
Search inside the public site overview lists
ricerca-liste-panoramica-sitoWe have added a handy search bar to the lists in the public site overview, in particular to the territory and supporters lists. When these lists contain many entries, scrolling to find the right one could take time: now you simply type a few letters and watch the list filter instantly. Search works on both computer and smartphone, so you quickly find what you need from any device. This makes it much easier to browse content-rich pages, both for you who manage the site and for those who visit it from outside. The search bar stays visible at the top of the list at all times, so it is immediate to use whenever you need it. To try it, open the public overview of a site and go to the sections with the territory and supporters lists. Type the name you are interested in and the list will update to show only the relevant results. It is a small tool that saves time when there is a lot of content to display.
Bug Fixes
7 updatesMore reliable site pages even with slow loading
fix-siti-monitoraggio-caricamentoWe have fixed an issue where, in certain circumstances, a site page in the Monitoring section could mistakenly show a page-not-found screen even when the site existed perfectly well. This happened when the initial data loading hit a momentary hiccup, for example because of a slow connection or a temporary slowdown. The effect was annoying, because you faced an error message even though you had opened a valid site, and you were forced to reload the page to try again. With this fix, a momentary problem during loading no longer triggers the false error screen: the page handles the situation more robustly and still tries to show the site's content. The result is far more reliable access to sites, especially under less-than-ideal network conditions. The fix is already active automatically for all users and requires no action on your part. To use the section, go to XNatura → Monitoring → Site and open one of your sites. If in the past you happened to see that error screen when opening a site, you should now find loading much more stable.
Improvements
7 updatesClearer, more readable sensor popup on the map
popup-sensori-mappa-leggibileWe have improved the popup that appears when you select a sensor on the map, making it tidier and easier to read. Previously all the information was shown together, and for sensors with a lot of data the box could feel crowded and scattered. Now the main information is front and center, while the extra details are revealed progressively only when you actually need them. This way you understand the sensor's status and the most important values at a glance, without being overwhelmed by too much data at once. Those who want to dig deeper can still reach all the information with a simple gesture. The result is a faster, more pleasant way to consult the map, especially when there are many sensors to check. To notice it, go to XNatura → Monitoring → Census → Map and select one of the sensors present. The new popup will show you the information more gradually and readably.
