The Historical Climate — Soil Moisture indicator shows the historical trend of volumetric water content in the 0-100 cm soil layer. This parameter is fundamental for plant root growth, vegetation water availability, soil organism survival, and aquifer recharge estimation.
Soil moisture also controls ground-nesting pollinator habitat (approximately 70% of solitary bee species), organic matter decomposition, and nutrient mineralisation processes.
Data come from the Open-Meteo Historical Weather API. The variable used is soil_moisture_0_to_100cm_mean (mean soil moisture in the 0-100 cm layer). Data are interpolated to the site's position.
