The MSA Climate Change component (MSA_CC) quantifies the projected impact of climate change on native species abundance for each CLC land cover class. It is one of six sub-components of the composite Mean Species Abundance (MSA) indicator, which measures biodiversity intactness relative to undisturbed ecosystems (MSA = 1 means pristine, MSA = 0 means total loss).
MSA_CC is derived from the GLOBIO model (PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency) and estimates biodiversity reduction caused by rising global temperatures, changing precipitation patterns, and increasing frequency of extreme weather events. MSA_CC values are assigned to each Corine Land Cover (CLC) class based on global climate projections and species-climate dose-response relationships documented in the scientific literature.
Values range from 0.75 (severe climate impact — significant reduction in native species abundance) to 1.0 (no detectable climate impact — ecosystem in near-original conditions). The narrower range compared to the overall MSA (0–1) reflects the fact that climate change, while a global driver, has a moderate and diffuse effect rather than an extreme and localised one.

MSA component for climate change. The MSA_CC value for each CLC class is derived from GLOBIO model dose-response relationships, estimating biodiversity reduction due to global climate projections. The overall value is the area-weighted (hectares) average of MSA_CC values across all CLC classes present in the site. Range: 0.75–1.0. Current version: v0.
