3Bee Oases

Overview

The 3Bee Oases indicator provides a geolocated catalogue of 3Bee Oases within a 150 km radius of the monitored site. 3Bee Oases are plantations managed through the 3Bee platform that participate in the tree adoption programme, aiming to regenerate biodiversity and increase the Mean Species Abundance (MSA) of land cover.

For each oasis, the following are calculated:

Hectares regenerated (ha_regenerated): effectively regenerated area, calculated as ROI_hectares × (adopted_trees / plantable_trees)
Hectares regenerable (ha_regenerable): area still available for regeneration, calculated as ROI_hectares − ha_regenerated
Regeneration potential: based on comparison between MSA Base (original land cover) and MSA Regeneration (regeneration-tagged CLC layer)

The catalogue includes geographic location (city, province, coordinates), distance from the site (Haversine formula), size in hectares, and link to the oasis page on the 3Bee platform. Results are sorted by ascending distance.

Calculation Methodology

Database query: retrieve all plantations with adoptable trees from the 3Bee database
Spatial filtering: select oases whose polygon intersects the 150 km buffer around the site's ROI
MSA data retrieval: for each oasis, read MSA Base and MSA Regeneration values from the CLC layer
Adoption calculation: count of currently adopted trees vs. total plantable trees
Regeneration calculation: ha_regenerated = ROI_hectares × (adopted / plantable); ha_regenerable = ROI_hectares − ha_regenerated
Distance calculation: Haversine distance (km) from oasis centroid to user site centroid
Sorting: by ascending distance
CSV export: saved to S3 with structured columns
