Offline Field Mode and bird-listening verification
Field Mode works offline and installs on your smartphone, the bird acoustic verifier arrives, photos and videos with one tap from the map, the data plan usage widget, self-service sensor connection and several fixes.
New Features
8 updatesVerify bird recordings with reference sounds
verificatore-acustico-uccelliA new tool to verify bird identifications arrives for those who use bioacoustic sensors. For each recording you can now open a dedicated window that shows the spectrogram of the recording, that is its visual fingerprint, next to reference sounds of the candidate species. The side-by-side comparison makes it much easier to understand whether the automatic identification is correct. You can listen to the recording and the references, confirm the proposed species or reassign it to a different one, and your decision is saved together with the observation. This takes the quality of acoustic censuses to a higher level, combining the power of automatic recognition with expert human judgement. The comparison window has been designed in a wide format, with several references visible at the same time, for comfortable comparison. To use it, open the sensors section in your site's census, enter the recordings area and select a recording to verify. Every extra verification increases the scientific value of the data you collect.
Photos and videos with one tap from mounts and transects
foto-video-da-mappaDocumenting the state of your monitoring points now takes a single tap. When you open the window of a mount on the map, you find the new buttons to take a photo or record a short video, both from smartphone and from computer. The materials are attached automatically to the point's notes, with no intermediate steps. The notes and media of the transects can also now be reached directly from the census map: tap a transect and access its diary. This turns every field visit into an opportunity to enrich the visual history of the site with minimal effort. The collected images stay organised by point and by date, ready to be consulted by the whole team. To try it, open your site's map, tap a mount and use the photo and video buttons in the window that appears. Continuous visual documentation is worth more than a thousand written descriptions.
Field Mode grows: offline, installation and transects
modalita-campo-potenziataOne day after its debut, Field Mode receives a series of important enhancements. The main novelty is offline operation: if the connection is missing in the field, your notes, photos and surveys are stored on the device and synchronised automatically as soon as you are back online, with an indicator showing the queue status. The platform can now also be installed on the smartphone home screen like a real app. Photos taken with an iPhone are accepted without format issues. The page is organised into three tabs, points of interest, mounts and transects, and for each new element you can choose whether to use the GPS position or indicate the point on the map. You can add mounts right where you are, connect a device on the spot and draw a new transect by tapping the vertices on the map. The bottom panel has been redesigned to be scrollable and comfortable even with many entries. To use all the news, open Field Mode from your site's monitoring on a smartphone.
Data plan usage always under control
widget-consumo-apiOrganisations that use programmatic access to the data now find a dedicated widget in the platform sidebar. The widget shows at a glance how much of the data plan has been used in the current period, with a clear progress bar. This way you can understand in advance whether you are approaching the limits of your plan and avoid interruptions in your connected systems. The usage updates as your integrations retrieve data from the platform. This visibility helps technical teams and managers plan possible plan upgrades with peace of mind. The widget appears automatically in the sidebar for organisations that have an active data plan. If you do not see it and think you need it, contact our team to activate data access. Keeping an eye on usage has never been so simple.
Connect a sensor to an existing mount by yourself
collega-sensore-autonomoFrom today you can connect a new device to a mount already present on your site without asking for assistance. If a mount is free, in the sensors tab you find the button to start the guided connection. The procedure asks you for the device code, verifies it and associates it with the chosen mount in a few steps. This way, when you receive a new sensor, you can put it into operation immediately, even directly in the field. The guided procedure checks that the code is valid and warns you with clear messages in case of a typing error. This makes expanding your monitoring network much faster and more independent. To try it, open the sensors tab in your site's census, find a mount without a device and choose the connection action. Your sensor network grows at the speed of your needs.
Bug Fixes
8 updatesMap generation outcome always visible
errori-generazione-mappe-visibiliWe improved the communication of outcomes when you request the generation of new maps and analyses. Previously, if a generation did not succeed, the interface could keep showing an endless wait, leaving you in doubt. Now any problem is shown clearly, with an understandable message and the updated status of the processing. The generation progress overview also now correctly distinguishes the completed, in progress and failed activities. This way you always know where your requests stand and you can decide whether to retry or contact support. This applies both to generations started from the site map and to those managed from the sites summary table. You do not have to do anything to activate the news: it is already operational for everyone. Transparency about outcomes saves you useless waits and makes the process more reliable.
Two-step verification setup without hiccups
verifica-due-passaggi-fluidaWe fixed the activation procedure of two-step verification via authenticator app. In some situations the configuration could restart from the beginning instead of completing, forcing you to repeat the steps. Now the flow proceeds linearly from scanning the code to the final confirmation. In addition, when you choose verification via email code, the interface clearly shows how many input attempts remain. These improvements make adopting the additional protections on your account more reassuring. Two-step verification is one of the most effective defences for your data: we recommend activating it if you have not already done so. To do so, go to your account's security settings and follow the guided procedure. It only takes two minutes to make your access much more protected.
Improvements
8 updatesReal previews for the map layers
anteprime-livelli-realiThe map layer selection cards now show more faithful previews for the views dedicated to observations and pollinator density. Previously these cards used generic images that did not convey the real content of the layer. Now each card presents a thumbnail taken from a real map visualisation, so you immediately understand what you will get by activating that layer. Choosing the right layer becomes faster and more intuitive, especially for those who have been using the platform for a short time. The thumbnails have been optimised to load quickly without weighing down the page. You will find the new previews by opening the layer selector on a site's map. The selector remains organised by categories, with the news clearly visible. Small visual details like this make exploring the data more pleasant every day.
