Birdy

Birdsong, identified night and day

A passive microphone that listens to the site and returns the list of the birds that live there. Birds respond to habitat quality faster than vegetation does, which is what makes them a usable indicator.

Device and subscription

Choose the subscription

The subscription is your access to the XNatura platform: the site, the maps, the species list and the export. The device alone measures; the platform is where the measurement becomes evidence.

The cart and the payment are handled on ilovenatura.com, the 3Bee store. The price is re-read there from the catalogue, never from this link.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How many bird species can Birdy recognize?

Birdy is currently able to recognize over 200 bird species found in Europe. The database is continually updated with new species and improvements to the recognition algorithms.

How does it work in noisy environments?

Birdy's algorithms are designed to filter background noise and isolate birdsong even in urban environments or near roads. The recognition quality can vary depending on the level of noise.

Is real-time data accessible?

Yes, all data collected by Birdy is available in real time on the XNatura platform. You can view the detected species, listen to the recordings, and analyze trends over time.

What exactly is the annual fee?

It is the subscription to the XNatura platform, not a hardware instalment. It pays for the connectivity of the sensor, the AI models that turn raw audio, images or samples into a species list and a set of indicators, the storage of the whole history, and the support. Without it the device measures and has nowhere to send the measurement.

Do I have to install the sensor myself?

You can. The devices are designed to be mounted by one person with no tools beyond a strap or a bracket, and activation is guided step by step. On corporate sites the 3Bee field team usually does the first installation and the calibration, which is also when the site polygon and the monitoring plan get set up.

Which countries do you ship to?

Italy and the European Union at the shipping cost shown on each device. Outside the EU it is possible but priced case by case, because customs and the local connectivity have to be checked first: ask us and we will quote it.

What happens when the subscription ends?

The device stays yours and the data already collected stays exportable. What stops is the incoming stream: no new transmissions, no new species identifications. Renewing restarts it on the same site, with the history intact.

Can I buy a sensor without the platform?

No, and not for commercial reasons: these sensors have no local display and no memory card to walk over to a laptop. They are built to transmit, and the platform is the thing they transmit to. A device without a subscription would be an object that measures for nobody.

Is a single sensor enough for a report?

For a BREEAM or an ESRS E4 baseline it usually is not: one device documents one point, and a report needs the site. The way it is normally done is satellite layers across the whole site plus one or two sensors where field evidence is required, which is exactly the split the platform is designed around.
