LUE01 - Planted area, what does this subsection of BREEAM certification require?

LUE01 - Planted area is the first of the 5 subsections that make up the environmental category Land Use and Ecology. This subsection is associated with up to a maximum of 4 credits and is part of the Asset performance evaluation. LUE01 - Planted area identifies already existing planted areas and assesses their potential to support biodiversity. The objective of this subsection is to quantify and encourage the creation of planted areas within the asset under analysis, in order to support the ecology of the site and the health and well-being of the occupants through greater proximity to green spaces. The question of this subsection is “What percentage of the asset's surface has been planted?”. Depending on the resulting percentage, credits can be obtained ranging from 0 to a maximum of 4.

The evaluation criteria (assessment criteria) for the LUE01 - Planted area section are as follows: The planted area can contain or be a mix of horizontal and vertical plantings. Vertical habitats or green walls can be: Self-supporting or part of the building, provided they are located within the asset. Partially or completely covered with vegetation and, in some cases, with an inorganic growing medium. Green walls can only be considered if they are "plugged": green walls made up of climbing plants, where the wall simply serves as a support for the plants, cannot be considered.
