How to generate the Land Cover layer in your XNatura platform demo

Did you know that once your site-specific assessment demo is activated, you can immediately proceed with the generation of environmental data for the site you are analyzing? The video shows you the first crucial step: how to generate the Land Cover layer. This layer is based on the CLC (Corine Land Cover), which classifies and distributes land covers and urban areas. It provides detailed information on land types and land use, identifying key categories such as forests, agricultural areas, wetlands, and urban settlements. By generating this layer, you will visualize the exact composition of your site in terms of land use within seconds. Starting from this fundamental information, you will be able to subsequently extrapolate and unlock further environmental KPIs analyzed remotely.

How to generate environmental KPIs from the CLC layer

Once the CLC layer is generated, the video will show you the process to unlock all the other environmental KPIs. In just a few minutes, you will have a complete set of information on impacts, dependencies, and risks related to the climate and nature of your site, always compared with the surrounding Control Area. The environmental metrics generated in this initial phase cover a wide spectrum of analysis, including (non-exhaustive list): Land use, Microclimate, Status of biodiversity, Specific focus on the status of pollinators, Physical risks, Thermal risk, Pollution, Endangered species.

How to explore the generated environmental KPIs in your platform demo

The video will guide you through an in-depth exploration of some of the main Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that we analyze remotely. These layers, viewable on the map, provide a granular understanding of the environmental context of your asset: Land Cover and Impermeability: shows the distribution of the different types of land cover (Land Cover) both for the site and for the surrounding Control Area. It is possible to adjust the level of detail and visualize the degree of soil impermeability. Observations and Citizen Science: a layer that shows the observations of species recorded in the site and nearby areas. These data can come from technical profiles or Citizen Science activities, thanks to our Biodiversa app, which combines AI species identification with geolocation and gamification. Protected Areas and Ecological Connectivity: visualizes the presence of protected areas around the site. This data is essential for identifying sensitive and delicate ecosystems. You can also observe ecological corridors, buffer zones, and transition areas. Hydrogeological Risk: represents the flood risk based on the analysis of historical flood events. Climatic Indicators: Soil Temperature and the Aridity Index (ratio of annual precipitation to evapotranspiration) provide good indicators of the effects of climate change on the site and the surrounding area. Light Pollution: a layer that shows the intensity of artificial light emitted in an area, highlighting its potential negative impact on ecosystems and wildlife. Urban Heat Island Index: shows the trend over time and intensity of urban heat islands, providing clear indications of the impact of human activities on the local microclimate. Extreme Events: the layer that visualizes where extreme events such as earthquakes, floods, and tropical cyclones have been historically recorded, crucial data for understanding the level of risk of the site. Carbon Stock: shows the amount of organic carbon stored in the area under analysis.
