EU Taxonomy: screening the physical climate risks
For 'do no significant harm' to adaptation, the Taxonomy asks for a robust assessment of climate risk and vulnerability. We bring the first two steps, screening and materiality; the adaptation solutions stay with the company.

The rule
Three steps, in Appendix A of Delegated Regulation (EU) 2021/2139
Appendix A asks for climate projections at the finest scale available and, for major investments, scenarios of 10 to 30 years. The hazard list of its Section II is indicative and is to be considered as a minimum.
- 1
Screening
Which physical risks of the list may affect the activity over its expected lifetime.
- 2
Materiality
Where the activity is at risk, how material those risks are.
- 3
Adaptation
The adaptation solutions that reduce the risk and, for existing assets, a plan within five years.

The risk engine
Hazard screening, site by site
The engine labels every risk acute or chronic as in Section II and computes it for four SSP scenarios, from 2026 to 2100.
What we give
- Screening of the listed hazards the engine computes, among them heat waves, drought, river and coastal floods, wildfire, landslides and storms
- Projections by scenario at the site's grid cell, from downscaled CMIP6 models
- The data for materiality: class and value at risk for every hazard
With their limits
- Not every hazard of the list: tornadoes, avalanches, subsidence and others are not computed
- The 2021 text names the RCP scenarios; the engine uses the SSPs of the CMIP6 generation
Stays with the company
- The adaptation solutions and the plan
- The full assessment and the alignment statement
- Verification, by the company and its auditor
FAQ
Questions on the EU Taxonomy
Do you certify Taxonomy alignment?
No. We bring the hazard screening and the data for materiality; the full assessment, the adaptation solutions and the statement belong to the company and its auditor.
Does Regulation 2026/73 change anything?
It simplified the Taxonomy from 2026, but it does not amend the criteria for climate adaptation nor Appendix A.
Which years do you cover?
From 2026 to 2100 in five-year steps, for four scenarios. Appendix A asks for 10 to 30 year scenarios for major investments: they fall within that range.
