Construction site: the impact of the works, checked in the field
The construction phase has effects of its own: land taken, vegetation removed, dust, noise, disturbance. We check them in the field with the field mode of the Biodiversa app: notes and photos with their position, transects, the same points visit after visit, straight into the report.

The rule
The construction phase is part of the impact study
The EIA Directive, as amended in 2014, asks the environmental impact assessment report to describe the land-use requirements during the construction and operational phases, and the likely significant effects of the construction and existence of the project, including demolition works. In Italy the contents of the study are in Part Two of Legislative Decree 152/2006.
- 1
Before the works
A field baseline: what is there and where, photographed from fixed points that the next visits will find again.
- 2
During the works
Visits in field mode on the areas the works touch: notes, photos and transects with their GPS position; dust measured by PollyX sensors.
- 3
After the works
Back to the same points: what was restored and what changed, in the report next to the baseline.

What the surveyor records reaches the report
The functions of the Biodiversa app and of the platform that are in production today.
In production
- Transects drawn by tapping the vertices on the map, pins with photos and notes, mounts for the sensors; offline too, synchronised back online
- Pins planted from the web by the coordinator, with what to photograph; for cardinal photos the app shows where to point
- Every photo tied to its pin and to the site, with the GPS position: at the next visit it is retaken from the same point
- The species recognised from the photo on an archive of over 6,000 species, and validated by the expert
- From the Report Builder, «Capture with Biodiversa» opens the app on the site: the photo becomes an observation and appears in the report
- Dust, PM2.5 and PM10, measured by PollyX sensors
In part
- Noise: the stations record and archive it, not yet in the report
Stays with the contractor and the authority
- The environmental management of the site and the schedule of the works
- Compliance with the conditions of the authorisation, which the authority checks
Then
From the construction site to the monitoring
When the works end, the same points become the monitoring after construction: the same pins, the same indicators, compared with the baseline and with a control area outside the project.

FAQ
Questions on the construction site
Do you supervise the construction site?
We check its ecological effects in the field, with visits, photos and sensors, and report them. The environmental management of the site and the works are the contractor's; compliance with the conditions is checked by the authority.
Does field mode work without signal?
Yes: transects, pins and photos are saved on the phone and synchronised when it is back online.
How does it reach the report?
Each photo is an observation tied to its pin and to the site. From the Report Builder, «Capture with Biodiversa» opens the app already on the site, and what the surveyor records appears in the report.
