"Airports & XNatura: monitoring the biodiversity of Italian airports"
XNatura has conducted satellite monitoring of Italian airports using the Flora technology, developed in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA). Flora is based on the analysis of satellite images to provide an accurate assessment of the biodiversity present in the areas surrounding the airports. A quantitative method that, thanks to artificial intelligence, allows for precise and continuous definition of changes in land use and, therefore, the flora of a specific area.
Thanks to satellite monitoring of 60 Italian airport sites using Flora technology, it has been possible to analyze satellite images and use artificial intelligence models to examine a total of 14,000 hectares, covering a vast area surrounding the airports. This assessment has provided a large-scale overview of the potential biodiversity of the various monitored areas, allowing for the identification of optimal sites for field monitoring and for the continuous monitoring of vegetative dynamics.
Each XNatura assessment and monitoring suite is based on standard and recognized protocols that help you understand the priority level of your sites in relation to nature, biodiversity, and climate.
